GRAND JUNCTION DOWNTOWN

Challenge: The Downtown Development Authority in Grand Junction organized a multi-day community planning and design workshop to study different options for improving the auto, pedestrian and bike connectivity throughout the downtown core and to generate creative ideas for improving the commercial success of downtown businesses and specific opportunity sites. Leggitt Studio was commissioned to illustrate different design ideas generated in this community planning workshop.

Solution: Jim Leggitt and the design team walked throughout the study area and took reference photographs which were paired effectively with sketches as a “before and after” visual presentation showing what a property might look like with improvements or modifications. Jim printed each photograph 8 1/2”x11” and sketched his ideas with an ink pen on tracing paper over a light table. Each drawing was colored with markers. A 3-D computer model and corresponding hybrid drawing was also created for two downtown sites involving multi-story residential developments.
