VALENTINE MAIN STREET STUDY
Challenge: Leggitt Studio participated in a community planning workshop in Valentine, Nebraska with the specific focus of improving the downtown Main Street environment. The planning team focused on a six block long segment of the commercial core and developed numerous concepts for improving the parking, landscaping, development potential of vacant properties and general enhancements to signage, murals, lighting and public amenities.
Solution: Due to the limited duration of the planning workshop, Jim Leggitt elected to use a visualization technique named “before and after sketches” which relied on photography of existing conditions paired with a hand drawn sketch of what the subject might look like with design improvements. Jim generated more than a dozen sketches that were presented side-by-side with the photographs. This technique was very effective for gaining valuable feedback and support from the community.
