DOWNTOWN MONUMENT IMPROVEMENTS
Challenge: The City of Monument, Colorado Downtown Business Association organized a design workshop with the purpose of developing creative ideas for enlivening their historic downtown district. The design team focused on streetscape improvements, building facade renovations, landscaping, gateways and signage elements
Solution: The team toured the subject area and Jim Leggitt took reference photographs for the purpose of generating sketches directly from the photographs. Jim printed selected images on 8 1/2”x11” paper and then created “overlay and trace” sketches using a light table. Each illustration was drawn with an ink pen and colored with markers. The “before and after” format of photo-sketch was an effective technique for communicating to the general public how an existing space might look with design interventions.
