TAOS DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION

Challenge: Leggitt Studio participated in a downtown planning project in Taos, New Mexico. The multi-day community planning workshop involved studying numerous locations around town that involved street and sidewalk improvements, activating alleys, creating new pedestrian trail connections, and general enhancements throughout the central commercial core. Due to the high number of required drawings, Jim used a visualization approach that involved photography and quickly generated hand drawings.

Solution: During the workshop, Jim printed 7”x10” photographs and traced over the images using a light table. All of his “before and after” sketches were drawn with a fine tip pen and colored with markers.  More than 15 concept sketches were generated and presented side-by-side with the reference photographs in public meetings for people to easily understand the existing condition and proposed design improvements.
